The Digital Rebellion Has Started

Well, well, well. Looks like Sony’s having a bit of a shite week.

The PlayStation 5, a console designed to keep you firmly inside Sony’s walled garden, is being cracked open by hackers who’ve had enough of being told what they can and can’t do with hardware they’ve paid for.

And here’s the irony. AI, the very technology Big Tech is pouring billions into, is now being used by developers to push back.

The PS5 has been jailbroken. An unofficial storefront has appeared with over 1,600 games and DLC, emulators are running, and folk have even got Xbox games working through cloud gaming on the bloody thing. Meanwhile, developers are making progress towards getting PS5 games running on PCs.

Fucking YES!

There’s something fucking beautiful about that.

But this isn’t just about Sony or a bunch of folk hacking their PlayStations.

It’s about something much bigger.

When did buying something stop meaning you actually own it?

Back in the Nintendo days, we didn’t need an internet connection. You stuck a cartridge in, fired that bad boy up, and away you went for hours. No accounts, no updates, no servers to connect to. Just you, your console and whatever game you were playing.

Now? These fuckers want everything connected. Consoles calling home, games checking licences, accounts for this, subscriptions for that. And we’re being pushed further towards a future where you won’t even have a disc to stick in the bloody thing.

And let me ask you this.

Wasn’t going digital supposed to cut costs? No discs to manufacture, no boxes, no shipping, no shops taking their cut.

So why the fuck are we paying more than ever?

Where are all these savings we were promised? Because they certainly don’t seem to be making their way into our pockets.

We’re constantly being sold this idea that everything is getting better, easier and more convenient.

But convenient for who?

Certainly not us.

And it’s not just cunt companies like Sony taking the piss.

Our governments are getting in on the act too.

We’re Sitting on Energy, So Why Are We Paying a Fortune?

Now, can someone explain to me how the fuck this makes sense?

I live in Scotland. We’ve got oil and gas out in the North Sea, wind turbines scattered across the countryside, and enough rain to make you forget what the sun looks like.

Yet we’re paying some of the highest electricity prices in Europe.

I’m not even exaggerating. In the second half of 2025, UK household electricity prices were the fourth highest out of the UK and 27 EU countries.

Fourth fucking highest!

And gas? The price per unit is around 140% higher than it was back in 2021.

Now I know North Sea oil and gas aren’t magically free just because they’re sitting off the coast of Aberdeen. I understand there are international markets, production costs and all the rest of it.

But surely it’s fair to ask why a country with its own energy resources still has ordinary families worrying about whether they can afford to put the heating on?

And here’s another thing that really boils my piss.

We’re sitting beside the North Sea, with oil and gas being extracted from beneath it, yet Britain is still importing enormous amounts of the stuff from abroad.

In 2024, Norway supplied around 31% of our imported crude oil.

Norway! Another country drilling away in the North Sea.

Now, I know that different types of oil need different refineries, and that the stuff we extract isn’t necessarily the same stuff we need.

But here’s what I don’t fucking understand.

In 2025, Britain produced around 31 million tonnes of crude oil and related liquids, yet imported over 40 million tonnes.

And we’ve still got major developments like Rosebank and Jackdaw caught up in political and environmental battles.

I’m not saying we should drill every last drop out of the North Sea. There’s a genuine argument to be had about the environment and our future energy needs.

But surely there’s also an argument about energy security, jobs and making better use of the resources we’ve already got?

We’re constantly told about investment, energy security and building a better future.

Aye, brilliant.

But when does any of that actually start benefiting the folk paying the bloody bills?

Because right now, ordinary families are paying through the fucking nose, and I don’t see much evidence of things getting easier.

We’ve got the resources. We’ve got the technology. So why does it constantly feel like we’re getting shafted?

Wind Turbines, AI and the Great Energy Piss-Take

And you know what else boils my fucking tits?

Wind turbines.

Those great big ugly bastards!

Scotland has some of the most beautiful scenery you’ll ever see. Right on my doorstep, I can head out for a walk along the cycle track, through the farmland, surrounded by green fields, hills and fresh air.

Absolute bliss.

Then you look up across the hills in the distance, and there they are.

These massive fucking wind turbines sticking out of the landscape like a big fat hard-on.

Now, before someone starts shouting about climate change, I’m not against renewable energy. I understand why we need it, and I’d much rather we were producing our own electricity than relying on other countries.

But I’ll tell you what really takes the piss.

We’re constantly being told to use less energy, reduce our carbon footprints and do our bit for the planet.

Meanwhile, Big Tech is building enormous AI data centres that need ridiculous amounts of electricity to keep running.

And suddenly it’s all about finding more power to feed the bloody things.

Where’s all the concern about energy consumption now?

Apparently, we’re supposed to feel guilty about leaving a light on, while billion-pound technology companies can demand enough electricity to power entire towns.

But does every beautiful bit of countryside need to end up looking like a bloody power station?

And here’s what really gets me.

We’re told Scotland is producing all this wonderful green energy, that wind power is the future and that we’re helping save the planet.

Brilliant. Good for us.

So why are our electricity bills still so fucking expensive?

I know there’s more to electricity pricing than how many wind turbines we’ve got, but surely ordinary people should be seeing some benefit from all this investment?

Because from where I’m standing, we’ve got turbines on the hills, oil beneath the sea, and electricity bills that make you want to sit in the dark with a fucking candle.

Climate Change and the Great Hypocrisy

And while we’re on the subject of climate change, can someone explain why the rules always seem to be different for the rich and powerful?

Government officials, celebrities, billionaires. All flying around the fucking planet, some in private jets, while the rest of us are told to watch our carbon footprints.

Have you seen the controversy surrounding Taylor Swift and her private jet?

Fuck me, man.

Private jets can produce far more emissions per passenger than commercial flights, yet somehow we’re the ones getting lectured about doing our bit.

And don’t even get me started on all these big, important world leaders attending their big, important climate meetings.

Flying halfway across the planet to sit in a room and discuss how the rest of us need to change our lifestyles.

ON HOW TO FUCK US EVEN MORE!

Seriously, has nobody introduced these cunts to FaceTime?

Zoom? Teams? A fucking phone call?

I’m sure some meetings genuinely need to happen in person, but surely not every gathering requires half the world’s politicians flying around the globe.

And then there’s the supermarkets.

Asda, Tesco, Morrisons. Walk into any of them and look at the amount of plastic packaging.

Fruit wrapped in plastic. Vegetables wrapped in plastic. Things that already have their own natural fucking packaging, wrapped in even more plastic.

Yet we’re the ones being told to reuse our shopping bags and cut down on waste.

Aye, fair enough. We should all try to waste less.

But why does it constantly feel like ordinary people are being asked to make the sacrifices while massive corporations and the wealthy carry on doing whatever the fuck they like?

And before anyone starts, I’m not denying that the climate changes. It’s been changing for thousands of years.

But I do question how much of this is genuinely about saving the planet and how much is being used as another excuse to squeeze ordinary people.

We’re told to drive less, heat our homes less, use less electricity and watch every bloody thing we do.

Meanwhile, billionaires are flying around in private jets, governments are spending fortunes on climate conferences, and Big Tech is building enormous AI data centres that need ridiculous amounts of power.

And somehow, it’s always us who are expected to make the sacrifices.

If saving the planet is so fucking important, why aren’t the people preaching about it setting the example?

Cloud Seeding – What the Fuck Is Going On Up There?

Now here’s something else I’ve been looking into.

Cloud seeding.

And before anyone starts shouting conspiracy theorist, cloud seeding is a real thing. Weather modification has been researched and carried out in different parts of the world for decades.

Even here in the UK, there’s a publicly funded £56.8 million programme researching ways to cool the climate, including experiments looking at making clouds reflect more sunlight.

£56.8 fucking million!

Now, I’m 42 years old, and I’ve spent a fair bit of my life looking up at the sky.

I love the sky. Always have.

Those big fluffy white clouds, clear blue summer days, and looking up at the stars on a dark night. There’s something brilliant about it.

I’m also a bit of an aviation enthusiast. I regularly use Flightradar24, and I’ve spent plenty of time down at Glasgow Airport watching the planes coming and going.

So I’m not someone who’s only just discovered that aeroplanes leave trails behind them.

I know what a contrail is.

But over roughly the past year and a half, I’ve personally noticed what seems like a massive increase in aircraft activity above my house, particularly in the mornings.

And the trails!

Some of these big white trails hang about for hours. You can watch them gradually spreading wider and wider across the sky.

By late afternoon, what started as a fairly clear morning can end up looking grey and hazy.

Now, scientists explain that persistent contrails can spread into thin, high-altitude clouds when the conditions are right.

Fair enough.

But when you’ve spent years watching the same skies, you’re naturally going to notice when something looks different.

And with governments openly funding research into altering how clouds reflect sunlight, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to want to know exactly what’s being tested, where it’s happening and who’s overseeing it.

I’m not claiming every white line in the sky is some secret experiment.

But if we’re spending millions researching ways to interfere with the atmosphere, the public deserves to know exactly what the fuck is going on.

And while we’re being told to cut our emissions, can we talk about fucking China?

China produces more CO₂ annually than any other country on the planet. Meanwhile, we’re being told to change our cars, our heating and just about every bloody thing else.

Now, I know China has a much bigger population, and its emissions per person are a different story. It’s also investing heavily in renewable energy.

But here’s my question.

How much difference are our sacrifices going to make if the world’s biggest emitters don’t cut theirs too?

And there’s something else I want answers about.

What exactly happens to the substances used in cloud-seeding experiments?

If chemicals or particles are being released into the atmosphere, where do they eventually end up? What’s being measured, and what checks are being carried out to make sure they’re safe for people and the environment?

Because surely that’s something we should be asking before any large-scale weather modification takes place.

I’ve also noticed a fair few folk around my area complaining about severe headaches.

Now, I’m not saying that’s connected to anything happening in the sky. I’ve no evidence of that, and headaches can have all sorts of causes.

But it does make me think about how much we actually know about the air we’re breathing.

I’m not asking anyone to believe every conspiracy theory going.

I’m asking for transparency, proper independent testing and straight fucking answers.

Physical Ownership – Remember When We Actually Owned Shit?

I genuinely feel sorry for the younger generation sometimes.

Gen Z, Gen Alpha, whatever the fuck we’re calling them these days.

A lot of them will never know what it was like to have shelves absolutely bursting with VHS tapes, DVDs, CDs, Blu-rays and video games.

And the best part?

You actually owned the fucking things!

You could walk into Woolworths, HMV or your local video shop, hand over your money, and walk out with something that was yours.

No monthly subscription. No internet connection. No company deciding you’ve watched enough for one day.

If you wanted to watch the same film fifty times, you fucking could.

Now look at the state of things.

Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime, Spotify, PlayStation Plus, Xbox Game Pass.

Subscription after subscription after subscription.

And even after paying for all that, films disappear from streaming services, games get delisted, and prices keep creeping up.

You don’t own a collection anymore. You’re renting access to somebody else’s.

And the younger generation are growing up thinking this is perfectly normal.

Pay every month. Accept the price increases. Agree to the terms and conditions.

And when the company decides to change the rules?

Bend over, because you’re getting it right in the fucking jobby hole.

I know physical media isn’t perfect. Discs get scratched, tapes wear out, and some modern games still need downloads or online servers.

But give me a shelf full of films and games I can pick up and use whenever I want over a digital library that could disappear at the click of a button.

We used to own our entertainment. Now we’re paying rent on it.

Piracy – Who’s Really Taking the Piss?

Ahh, piracy.

Should you? Should you not?

I’m not going to tell you what I get up to, but here’s a question.

Why the fuck are people surprised that piracy is making a comeback?

Everywhere you turn, there’s another subscription, another price increase, another company trying to squeeze a few more quid out of you.

And what are we getting in return?

Less content, more adverts and films disappearing from services we’ve already paid for.

Now, have you ever actually looked at some of these piracy websites?

Get yourself over to FMHY and have a look at the sheer number of streaming sites listed there.

Some of these sites look fucking incredible!

Honestly, you’d think you were looking at Netflix. Proper layouts, film posters, categories, search functions, the latest releases and older films you can barely find anywhere else.

And the mad thing?

People have built these experiences without charging you a monthly subscription.

And let’s talk about Netflix for a minute.

£20.99 a fucking month if you want 4K.

That’s over £250 a year!

And if you don’t fancy paying that? Well, £13.99 gets you 1080p without adverts, or £7.99 if you’re happy watching adverts on a service you’re already fucking paying for.

And here’s the best bit.

Netflix put its prices up AGAIN in September 2026. The cheapest plan went up by 33%.

Thirty-three fucking percent!

Meanwhile, you’ve got unofficial streaming sites offering massive libraries of films and television programmes without charging a penny.

Now tell me.

Who’s the daft tit here?

I’m not saying piracy is legal, or that every site is safe. Some are full of dodgy adverts, trackers and malware, and the people making films and television deserve to be paid for their work.

But there’s something seriously wrong when unofficial websites can sometimes offer a more convenient experience than the billion-pound companies we’re paying.

Remember when Netflix first appeared?

It was brilliant. One subscription, loads of films and television programmes, and everything in one place.

Then every company decided it wanted its own streaming service.

Disney took its stuff. Other studios launched their own platforms. Suddenly, the content was scattered across half a dozen subscriptions.

And we’re expected to pay for the fucking lot.

Maybe instead of spending fortunes fighting piracy, these companies should ask themselves why people are turning to it in the first place.

Digital ID and Age Verification – What the Fuck Happened to Privacy?

Right, let’s talk about something that really gets on my fucking nerves.

Digital ID and age verification.

Remember when you could just go on the internet and browse whatever the fuck you wanted without having to prove who you were?

No passport. No driving licence. No scanning your face like you’re trying to get through airport security.

Just open your browser and away you went.

Well, apparently those days are disappearing.

In July 2025, the UK’s Online Safety Act brought in stricter age checks for websites and platforms hosting certain types of adult or harmful content.

And before anyone starts, I’ve got two wee girls myself. Of course I want children protected online. I’m not arguing against that.

But why the fuck should protecting children mean adults potentially handing over their personal information just to browse the internet?

Some services now use facial age estimation, photo ID, credit card checks or third-party identity verification.

Think about that for a second.

You could be a grown adult, sitting in your own house, using your own computer, paying for your own internet connection, and some website wants you to prove you’re old enough to look at something.

Fuck right off!

And who exactly is handling all this information?

Where’s it being stored? Who has access to it? What happens if there’s a data breach?

We’re constantly being told our information is safe and secure.

Aye, because companies have never lost anyone’s personal data before, have they?

And then there’s digital ID.

The UK government announced plans for a national digital ID system in 2025, including proposals to make it mandatory for right-to-work checks.

After all the controversy, the government cancelled that particular programme in 2026.

But here’s the thing.

The wider digital identity work hasn’t disappeared.

GOV.UK One Login, GOV.UK Wallet and government-backed frameworks for digital identity verification are still moving forward.

Now, I’m not saying there’s some secret law forcing everyone to carry digital ID. There isn’t.

But I am asking where all this is eventually heading.

Because every time something like this is introduced, we’re told it’s about convenience, security or protecting people.

And maybe some of it genuinely is.

But convenience for who?

The government? The companies collecting our information? The businesses selling identity verification services?

What about the ordinary person who just wants to use the fucking internet without another account, another verification process or another company getting involved?

And here’s what worries me most.

Once we’ve accepted having to prove our age to access certain parts of the internet, how do we make sure those checks don’t gradually spread into places they were never intended to reach?

I don’t want children accessing harmful material. Nobody sensible does.

But I also don’t want a future where every website visit requires some form of digital permission slip.

Privacy matters. Anonymity matters. Being able to browse the internet without identifying yourself matters.

And we shouldn’t have to give those things up just because somebody in government tells us it’s for our own good.

Protect children, absolutely. But stop treating every fucking adult like they need permission to use the internet.
