Do We Actually Wear Kilts All the Time?
Naw! We don't wear kilts every single day, but we do wear them on special occasions like Highland Games, weddings, and other traditional events.
I often hear people ask, “Do Scots wear kilts every day?” Well, now you know — we don't.
I've only ever worn a kilt a few times in my life, and always on very special occasions. One of those was my wedding, where I wore a traditional Scottish kilt.
We actually got married in Turkey, so it was a bit of a cultural fusion. Safe to say we had a lot of eyes on us that day.
I'll tell ye something though — never wear a kilt in a hot country. Fuck me, the troops down below were absolutely toasty. That was a mission that day.
So, naw, we really don't wear them all the time. But when we do wear them, they are smart as fuck!
Is Your Wully Out Under There?
Well… this is a bit of a cheeky question, but it's a very common one!
The answer is — well, it depends.
Some of us wear nothing under oor kilts, while others wear a pair of shorts or boxers. It's really just personal preference and whatever makes ye feel comfortable. Me personally? I cover the junk!
Now, during the drunken stages of the evening, things can get a wee bit more interesting. The ones whose baws are free as the wind sometimes decide it's a good idea tae do a front moony.
That usually involves leaning back slightly and lifting the kilt so the whole world can get a glimpse of the goods.
Aye… kilts and alcohol can be a dangerous combination.
Scotland Is the Worst Place for Kilts
Now here's the funny thing about kilts… Scotland is probably the worst possible country in the world for wearing one.
Why?
Because it's windy as hell here.
All it takes is one decent gust of wind and suddenly you're grabbing the front of your kilt like your life depends on it. Every man who's ever worn a kilt knows that moment, the panic grab.
Especially if you've gone commando!
It's all fun and games until a strong Highland breeze decides tae get involved.
The Full Kilt
Another thing people sometimes forget is that a kilt isn't just the kilt itself.
When you wear the full outfit, there's quite a wee bit going on.
You've got the sporran hanging at the front, which is basically Scotland's oldest version of a man bag.
Then there's the kilt socks, the jacket, and sometimes even the wee knife tucked into the sock — the sgian-dubh.
Put it all together though and it actually looks smart as hell. There's a reason we bring them out for weddings and big events.

So naw, we don't walk around wearing kilts every day.
But when we do wear them — weddings, ceilidhs, Highland Games, they still feel like a big part of our culture.
